What are the requirements for toilet provision for staff?

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines state that employers must provide ‘adequate and appropriate welfare facilities’ for staff, where ‘facilities’ refer to washing and toilet provision and the term ‘adequate’ relates to the number and quality of the facilities provided.

How many toilets should a workplace have?

For disabled members of staff or visitors, the Luxury Disabled Toilet has a ramp, handrails, reduced-height sink and mirror as well as plenty of room for wheelchair users to negotiate comfortably.

In line with HSE guidelines, all our units are provided with luxurious hand soap and moisturisers, plus hand towels and toilet paper. All are well lit and have hot and cold running water, while the urinal unit is supplied with hand sanitising stations. 

Do I have to provide toilets for the builders?

While your offices are being refurbished and can be construed as a construction site, toilet facilities must be provided at a ratio of one toilet per 7 workers operating across a 40-hour week.
