What is a vacuum toilet?

Looking exactly the same as a traditional luxury toilet, and with all the same features that make our traditional toilets luxury, a vacuum toilet does not use a conventional flush system to dispose of waste, but rather a vacuum pump, similar to toilets in aircraft. They are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional toilet hire for events where eco credentials are important, such as conferences and global platforms for climate change.

Portable vacuum toilet hire can improve the environmental credentials of any event in the following ways:

Vacuum toilets use less water – the innovative vacuum technology in the vacuum pods reduces the amount of water used by up to 90%. A traditional flushing toilet uses 6-9 litres of water per flush compared to just 0.5 litres for a vacuum toilet.

Vacuum toilets are chemical-free – in a traditional flushing portable toilet, waste water is recycled and used for flushing. To manage the hygiene levels of this waste water, chemicals are added to it; as this is not needed in a vacuum system, the toilets are 100% chemical-free.

Vacuum toilets keep queues down – a great benefit for organisers of high volume events is the time it takes a vacuum toilet to complete a cycle and be ready for the next user. The vacuum system completes a cycle much more quickly than a flush system, which means people vacate the toilets more quickly. In this way the traffic through the facilities moves steadily, without delay, allowing more people to use the toilets in the same period.

Vacuum toilets require no downtime for servicing – when the waste tank of a traditional portable toilet needs emptying, the toilet has to be put out of service while this is done. With vacuum toilets, waste can be pumped directly into the mains water or into a waste tank in a matter of a few minutes, enabling the toilets to remain in service constantly.
