How many portable toilets do you need for a wedding?

As we head towards ‘wedding season’ we are often asked how many portable toilets are needed for a wedding. Our latest guide has all the answers.

Experienced wedding coordinators, event organisers and facilities managers understand the complexity of planning a large wedding, and that it involves everything from venue décor to toilet hire, and much more in between. But having the correct number of toilets for expected guest numbers is arguably one of the most important things to plan for – unhappy guests will air their grievance at having to queue, on every social media platform they have access to.

Things to consider with portable toilet hire

Every wedding is different, with some welcoming a smaller number of guests during the day than in the evening and others hosting day long celebrations that will last long into the evening for hundreds of people. You should consider:

The wedding/reception venue – does the venue have permanent facilities on site? Where this is the case, fewer portable toilets may be needed simply to supplement the existing facilities. For larger venues, it is often worthwhile hiring toilets that can be situated around the site, allowing guests to have access wherever they are, rather than having to walk across possibly extensive grounds, to the toilets.

Guest numbers – a smaller, more intimate wedding will not need as many portable toilets as one that is expecting hundreds of guests and this will dictate the number and type of portable toilets you decide on. Also, the gender split of the guests may impact on the types of portable toilet units you consider.

Food and drink being served – weddings where guests will enjoy a wedding breakfast followed by an evening buffet, and have access to a day long bar, will need more facilities than weddings where the evening guests will not have food.

The duration of the celebrations – it goes without saying that an all-day/evening celebration will require more facilities than a ceremony only wedding.
