Luxury disabled toilet hire – a guide to making your event accessible to all

20 June 2022

As an events planner or operations manager, you may have often asked ‘How do I make my event more accessible?’ Our helpful article explains how we can help you to create an inclusive event.

In 2019/20, the Family Resources Survey identified that there were 14.1 million disabled people in the UK; 8% of children were disabled, 19% of working age adults, and 46% of pension age adults. It is highly probable, then, that these same percentages of event attendees will have a disability.

The universal goal of anyone involved in organising a public event, from festivals to conferences, is that all guests and attendees have a positive experience, but how can you make the facilities at your event inclusive to all?

The law and disability

Disability is defined as any impairment, physical or mental, that prevents a person’s ability to carry out normal daily activities. Under the Equality Act 2010 it is unlawful to discriminate or be discriminated against, on the grounds of disability. Both the Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Act 2010 ensure the provision and the quality of disabled facilities that must be available, for events to be fully compliant with the law.

At Fortis Hire, we supply three types of disabled toilet unit, and where budget is limited and a variety of units is not an option, we would always advise hiring a disabled toilet to meet the requirements of all.

Luxury disabled toilet unit

Our luxury disabled toilet unit features doors that are wide enough for a standard-width wheelchair. The unit lowers flat to the floor, reducing the ramp by 50% and the ramp features hand rails on either side. To the interior of the unit, there is sufficient space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre, plus a reduced-height sink and mirror. There are integral heaters for colder weather and all consumables are supplied which are luxury products and environmentally friendly. There is no need for a mains water supply and, where mains electricity is unavailable, we can provide generator hire if required. The luxury disabled toilet unit also features a family-friendly baby change station.

Plastic disabled toilet hire

The perfect, cost effective solution for events requiring large quantities of toilet units, our plastic disabled toilet has extra-wide doors, roll-in ground level floor access, and handrails throughout. The interior allows for a standard width wheelchair to manoeuvre with ease, and all required consumables are provided. There is an integral, drop down baby-change station.

High dependency unit

Disabled guests with carers can have their supported needs met comfortably, with our DDA compliant High Dependency Unit. Equipped with an adjustable height bed, with screen and hoist, the unit has a hot water hand basin with sensor tap, with grab rails and handrails internally and externally.

Benefits of disabled portable toilet hire from Fortis Hire

All our hire clients have 24-hour access to telephone support from our team of experienced engineers and, where required, we can provide an attendant service for all units. Delivery and collection can be arranged to suit individual event requirements and an out of hours service can also be organised if needed. All provided consumables are eco-friendly and all waste is disposed of ethically.

When you need to hire a disabled toilet unit, do not assume that all units will meet the needs of your attendees just because they are compliant with the law. At Fortis Hire we go above and beyond the minimum legal requirements and are happy to let you see for yourself.
